The Sacrament of Confirmation is a sealing and strengthening: God’s action in this sacrament «confirms» the indwelling of the Holy Spirit begun in Baptism. When a baptized person is confirmed, he/she receives in a special way the gifts of the Holy Spirit who acts within him/her as a special Light and Guide and helps him/her to live according to the Gospel and to witness to Jesus in the world. Adults are usually confirmed immediately after receiving the Sacrament of Baptism. Children who are baptized when they have reached the age of reason or later, are also confirmed immediately after Baptism. Children who are baptized as infants are usually confirmed at an age when they are capable of freely making a Profession of Faith. The celebration may take place either before or after First Eucharist (First Communion). More detailed information regarding preparation for Confirmation is available from your local parish. |
